2018 Water Polo National Champs calendar released

Water Polo Australia (WPA) has today announced the dates and locations of the National Club Championships for 2018 across all age groups.

WPA CEO Christian Renford said there are some great new initiatives included in the 2018 calendar, which is step one of a series of new events strategies Water Polo Australia will be unveiling over the coming months.

“After the successful introduction of the U12s Festival in 2017, the event is back on the calendar in 2018, with next year’s event to move from a festival to National Aged Club Championship tournament,” said Renford.

“We are pleased to be extending our partnership with the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) to deliver the 18&U Tournaments as well as the 14&U Boys Tournaments.  The AIS hosts many of our High Performance camps and clinics with the Aussie Stingers and Aussie Sharks, along with our junior Australian teams and Towards Tokyo camps.

“It will be a good opportunity for our 18&U Girls and Boys along with the 14&U Boys to compete at the Australian Institute of Sport and experience the facilities first hand.

“2018 will also provide another opportunity for us to work with regional councils in Wagga Wagga as well as Albury and Wodonga, which have provided great national Tournaments in recent years.

“Our National Aged Championships attracts more than 2,500 competitors from across the country and it is a priority for Water Polo Australia to offer quality national competitions.  We have some exciting new initiatives to be unveiled in coming months around junior events, growing grassroots participation and aligning the competitive pathway,” he said.
