Aussie Junior Men defeated by Russia

The Aussie boys went down over night in a hard-fought game against Russia. A large 14 foul-count differential cost the Australians.

Russia started strongly with the first two goals of the game and extended their lead to 4-1 halfway through the second quarter and from that point the match was evenly contested with the Aussies working hard to get on level terms with Russia. Australia drew within one via a penalty and Russia converted an  extra-man attack to go into the second half 6-4 up.

Australia started the third quarter strongly with Nicholas Hallam and Nicholas Elphick — both scoring to level the scores at six all, Elphick scoring a cracker from eight metres. Russia converted an extra man and Tim Putt scored 52 seconds prior to the final break levelling up the game at 7-7.

Russia came out on the attack in the final quarter scoring three unanswered goals to open up a three goal lead. The lead was too great to pull back. Australia will now play off with China for 11th and 12th place.
