Born 2000: “A talented generation,” says Arjan Vos

The Born 2000 Women’s squad will be holding a Training camp at the Australian Institute of Sport (AIS) in Canberra from the 5th to 9th April.

Head Coach Arjan Vos has travelled around Australia over the last two months running talent camps in Sydney, Perth, Melbourne, Adelaide and Brisbane, to identify the best athletes in the country.

Arjan Vos: “It has been great to see the enthusiasm of so many girls all over Australia who want to improve their game. I’ve met a talented generation of players and goalies. That’s only a start. Hard work beats talent, if talent doesn’t work hard. We need to put a lot of hard work to be able to compete with the best in the world”.

40 athletes have been identified to attend the AIS training camp, where they will all be put through their paces over five gruelling days. During the camp they will be tested and attend educational lectures on how to train and look after their body as an elite athlete.

“I’m looking forward to working with the selected group of girls in the best possible environment for Elite Sports,” continues Vos. “These young athletes will find out what it means to train and play at the highest level.”

At the end of these 5 days 24 players will be selected to go to Auckland NZ and represent Australia in 2 teams for the Pan Pac Championships (9-20th July). The teams will be split into 2 equal teams and will play in the U/18 & U/20 competitions to test their ability further.  Also while in Canberra 12 players will be selected to stay onin NZ for an extra 3 or 4 days after Pan Pac’s (July 20-24th approx)to train and play against NZ in a test series.
