Champions League I Younger hero in Szolnok

The most interesting encounters of Day 4 in 2017/18 Champions League were two big derbies with thriller endings. Title-holder Szolnok returned on winning track, beating Pro Recco. Jug and Barceloneta shared the points in Dubrovnik.

Szolnok recovered from the shock in the third round (loss to Spandau 8:9), but at the start of the game against Recco, it seemed that the title-holders would suffer one more loss. Pro Recco took a flying start. The champion of Italy, led by Aleksandar Ivovic (4 goals this evening), earned a 3:0 lead after just 2:21 minutes.

Szolnok started climbing back in the 8th minute (Jansik 1:3). For the first in the evening, the hosts went in front in the middle of the fourth period. Andrija Prlainovic scored from a penalty shot (8:7). But, his teammate in the national team of Serbia Filip Filipovic responded in the same way, from a penalty (8:8) with 2:54 remaining on the clock. In the 31st minute, both sides scored a goal each (Prlainovic 9:8 and Molina 9:9).

A hero of the big thriller was Aussie Sharks Captain, Aaron Younger. The Australian found the back of the net for the 4th time  (10:9) 52 seconds before the last buzzer. Recco had the last attack, but Szolnok’s defence resisted. The title-holder won10:9, while Pro Recco suffered the first loss in all competitions in this season.

It is maybe a surprise, but after the 4th round, Jadran Herceg Novi leads the race in Group B. The Montenegrin champion is the only unbeaten team in this group. In the 4th round, Jadran defeated Steaua in Bucharest – 8:4. But, the guests didn’t have an easy task. The lead was constantly changing in the first and in the second quarter. At halftime, the score was 4:4. After the scoreless 3rd period, Jadran played like a storm in the last quarter. In a span of 3:26 minutes the visiting team, led by Russian Danil Merkulov (4 goals in the match), scored four goals in a row for a convincing 8:4 victory.

Eger did a clean job against Sabadell. The Hungarian club, led by Serb Strahinja Rasovic (5 goals) demolished the guests from Spain – 14:5.

Spandau 04 blew away newcomer AZC Alphen and achieved the most convincing victory of the day -17:5. The Germans jumped to the 2nd position in the group. They have 9 points as well as Pro Recco and Szolnok, but Spandau has the best goal difference.
