Accounting Record Systems

All clubs are legally required to keep accounting records which log all the club’s financial transactions. These records will be used to prepare the club’s annual accounts and will be required by the club’s auditor/accountant. It is important to use a financial recording system that suits your club’s needs.

Depending on the size of the club and the volume of transactions being processed, the accounting records can be maintained on a spreadsheet or by using hard copy accounting books or accounting software like QuickBooks, MYOB and Xero.

When deciding on an accounting system, clubs should consider:

  • Costs
  • Security
  • Accessibility
  • Speed
  • Accuracy/probability of human error
