Australia’s Winning Edge Water Polo Australia – Athlete Categorisation Nomination Guidelines 2017-2020
A key strategy in the Australian Sports Commission’s (ASC) Australia’s Winning Edge (AWE) 2012-2022 game plan is to identify Australian athletes with the greatest potential to contribute to AWE targets and ensure they receive the right support at the right time. For more information on the AWE 2012-2022 game plan please click here.
The AWE Athlete Categorisation process is the mechanism to provide a consistent basis, both within and across sports, to:
- Identify the athletes with the greatest potential to contribute to Winning Edge targets;
- Inform the prioritisation of support to these athletes; and
- Track athlete performance over time.
To inform the water polo specific nominations to the AWE Athlete Categorisation framework, Water Polo Australia (WPA) has developed the WPA Athlete Categorisation Nomination Guidelines 2017-2020 – click here.
These guidelines inform the WPA Nationally Identified Athlete List developed by the respective national head coach in conjunction with national junior and state institute and academy coaches. The presentation of the nominated athletes is in the form of a gender specific program depth chart broken down by AWE athlete category, primary playing position, state and year of birth.
