State Academy/Institute Network

The state Institute and Academies of sport (SIS/SAS) provide the daily training environments to current and targeted national squad athletes.

Along with the AIS and state sporting organisations (SSO), the SIS/SAS/SSO network play a key role in supporting the national athlete pathway.


The role of State Institutes and Academies of Sport

  • Operate an elite and elite development program across all categories (Senior, Junior and Youth squads)
  • Provide world-class coaching, best practice support services and training facilities to achieve the primary goal of selection of its athletes and coaches onto National Teams
  • Promote the Water Polo Australia National Plan and performance framework
  • Provide training camp locations and support as required
  • Provide a training environment for athletes selected into the national squads
  • In conjunction with SSOs, deliver effective underpinning programs in line with national outcomes through an elite athlete development framework

The role of State Sporting Organisations

  • In conjunction with SIS/SAS and clubs, deliver effective underpinning programs in line with national outcomes through an elite athlete development framework
  • Assist the SIS/SAS in providing world-class coaching, best practice support services and training facilities with the primary goal of selection and ultimate performance of its athletes and coaches in National Teams
  • Promote the Water Polo Australia National Plan and performance framework
  • Assist in providing training locations for camps and domestic competitions as required
