The Australian Junior Men’s team were defeated by Montenegro in the early hours of this morning to miss out on the quarter finals of the 2017 FINA World Junior Water Polo Championships.
The Montenegro team dominated the Aussies from the outset with the Aussie boys struggling to get into the match, Montenegro took a convincing 4-1 lead into the quarter break.
The domination of Montenegro continued in the second quarter with Montenegro getting out to an 8-3 lead at halftime, Australia did try to fight back and take advantage of their extra-man opportunities, however Montenegro maintained their edge during the second half and extending their lead to 16-5 at the conclusion of the game.
Australia’s next game will be in the 9-12 bracket, where they will face Russia in a hope to take the win and finish in the top ten.
