Junior Women win International U20 Tournament

Australia’s Junior Women’s Team have kicked off their international tour in style winning the OMV International U20 Tournament in Hungary.

The warm-up Tournament provided the team with solid preparation ahead of FINA World Championships which will be held in Volos, Greece from 3-9 September.

The Aussies delivered consistent performances to remain undefeated throughout the U20’s Tournament, defeating Hungary U18 & U20 teams as well as Croatia.


Game 3: HUNGARY U20

Score: 9-8

It was the closet game of the Tournament with the hosts looking to finish the Tournament out strong.

Aussie Team member Sofie Pontre commented: “It was a physically tough game but we fought hard throughout the whole game and came away with a really good win.”

Game 2: CROATIA U20

Score: 15-4

The Aussies built on their strong win on day one to take a convincing 15-4 over Croatia.

Mia Willows said despite the slow start the Aussies did well to improve throughout the game and come home strong.

“We had a really solid win, winning 15-4. We had a bit of a sloppy start but we really built on our mistakes quarter by quarter and came through with a really good win.”

Game 1: HUNGARY U18

Score: 13-5

The opening day saw the Aussies take on a young Hungarian outfit.  Aussie Alex Corbett said the home side came out strong and really matched it with Australia.

“It was a tough game but as a team we really came together and put it to them.  We got past everything and played really well,” she said.
