The Australian Men’s Junior Team are currently participating in the World Junior Championships in Belgrade, Serbia.
The Aussies got off to a flying start in the tournament winning all three of their opening pool games convincingly, defeating China 14-4, New Zealand 13-3 and Argentina 14-5.
The final pool game was more challenging playing against the Host Nation Serbia. The Aussie boys matched Serbia in the first half going into the long break 4-2 down. The third quarter proved the turning point of the game with Serbia scoring five unanswered goals. The lead was then two great with Serbia taking the victory 11-2
The defeat to Serbia meaning that the boys finished second in their pool and had to face Water Polo power nation Montenegro in the crossover, Montenegro finished third in their group despite a narrow win over Japan in the final pool game. The Montenegro team dominated the Aussies throughout taking a convincing 4-1 lead into the quarter break. The domination of Montenegro continued in the second quarter with Montenegro getting out to an 8-3 lead at half and extending that lead to 16-5 at the end of the fourth quarter. The loss means that the boys will miss the quarter finals.
