December and January saw the next generation of water polo stars come together to train under national coaches and prepare for the various tournaments coming up.

B99/00 Junior Women’s Camp at the AIS.

The camp held from the 4th – 9th January included five days of intense training as well as education sessions focused on providing the 50 athletes in attendance knowledge and skills to navigate their way through the pathway while balancing school and university commitments. The camp was led by five coaches from across the system including National women’s junior coach Eddie Denis, WAIS Head Coach Georgina Kovacs, QAS and B00 Coach Arjan Vos, WPSA Head Coach Dusan Damjanovic, Sydney 2000 Gold medallist Taryn Woods and 2008 and 2012 Bronze medalist Alicia McCormack providing some specialist GK sessions.
At the conclusion of the camp we farewelled Arjan Vos who has moved back to The Netherlands vacating his QAS Head Coach and B00 national coach positions. Arjan provided fantastic coaching and leadership in the QLD environment over the past two years in addition to national roles and we wish him all the best for the future.
Dusan Damjanovic will step up into the B00 national coach position with Taryn Woods as his Assistant Coach.

B00 Junior Men’s Camp in Sydney

The men’s camp held from the 9th – 13th January was conducted under a similar structure to the women’s camp combining intense training sessions in the water and gym while focusing on educating the players in areas to assist their development and sport life balance. Led by B00 national coach Andrew Yanitsas, his assistant coach Andras Jo-Kovacs and well supported by national head coach Elvis Fatovic, the 20 players in attendance gained valuable insight into what’s required to become an Aussie Shark in the future and prepare them for the year ahead.
