STAGE SET TO NWPL FINALS SHOWDOWN

The final round of the 2017 National Water Polo League delivered some of the best fought contests seen this season, as teams stopped at nothing to secure their spot in the Finals Series.

See below for final standings.

Sydney University Lions have, as expected taken the double header, topping both the Men’s and Women’s tables leading into the finals.

In the Men’s competition, the ACU Cronulla Sharks will join the Sydney Uni Lions with a guaranteed spot in the semi finals, and the Sydney Uni Women’s team will be joined by the Queensland Breakers as immediate Semi Finalists.

In the Women’s competition it came down to the wire to decide who made it into the finals this year.  The win to Cronulla Sharks over the UNSW Wests, and a win for the Sydney University Lions over the Balmain Tigers meant a level total of 53 for both the Tigers and the Wests.  This ended up being a truly crushing result for the Wests as spelt the end their 2017 season, narrowly missing out on the finals due to goal difference.

All four clubs will play their next games on Saturday 8 April – semi finals start from 1:00pm – with their opponents to be decided in the Elimination Finals held on Friday 7 April.
