Water Polo Australia (WPA) have today announced a new structure to the National Competition Department, with current Competition Manager Noel Harrod finishing his contract in September 2017.
Matt Turnbull will assume the role of National Competition Manager, with the role to be relocated to the Sydney office at Homebush.
Matt will lead the implementation of WPAs competition strategy and oversee the effective delivery of national events including all national age championships and the National Water Polo League.
Since starting with Water Polo Australia, Matt has worked as the National Pathways Manager and will have the added benefit of a thorough hand over period with Noel.
Water Polo Australia CEO Christian Renford, said he was pleased to see a smooth transition in place.
“Matt and Noel have worked closely together for several years and we are pleased Noel will be able to complete an in-depth hand over with Matt.
“We are pleased to have succession planning in place so Noel can assist Matt in getting up to speed quickly as he will be responsible to overseeing the delivery of all WPA events including all national age championships and the National Water Polo League.
“On behalf of the WPA Board and staff we thank Noel for his contributions as National Competition Manager and welcome Matt to the new role,” said Renford.
Matt has already commenced in the role and said: “I’m excited about the new role and would like to thank Noel on the exceptional work he has done in developing the current competition structures we have in place today.
“I think it’s important to nurture participation within the sport, whist creating opportunities for our elite players wishing to pursue representative careers. I will endeavour to strike the right balance between the two objectives in order to cater for all participants,” he said.
