Aussie Sharks ready for FINA World League Super Final
Published Tue 18 Jun 2019
The Aussie Sharks will be looking for more success on the international stage as they head into the FINA World League Super Final in Belgrade, Serbia.
After wrapping up their 2018 international season with a silver medal at the FINA World Cup and on the back of their gold medal at the FINA World League Inter-continental Cup in Perth, the Aussie Sharks will be out to further build on their strong results.
Having spent the last week in Belgrade with training matches against Serbia, the Aussies are ready to take on the host nation in the opening game of the World League Super Final.
Rejoining the squad will be the team’s captain Aaron Younger, who comes into the Aussie camp on the back of recent success with his Hungarian side Ferencvaros at the European Champions League Final 8. Younger becaome the only Australian to be part of two winning Champions League teams.
The FINA World League Super Final will not only see more medals on the line, but will also be the last major tournament ahead of the FINA World Championships next month in South Korea.
Commenting in Belgrade ahead of tonight’s competition, Aussie Sharks Head Coach Elvis Fatovic said he has confident his team can match it with any nation.
“We can be good opponents against anyone, and that is a good thing.
“The World League Super Finals are the last chance to prepare for the World Championships in South Korea. Then we will fight to book our tickets for the Olympics.
“What encourages me is that we improved a lot psychologically. When the game is tied and uncertain we don´t show and feel nervous. We have ideas, we don´t rush, we don´t use only our physical strength,” he said.
The Men's FINA World League Super Final gets underway tonight in Belgrade, with Australia set to face host nation Serbia.
