DRUMMOYNE DEVILS PREPARE TO MAKE OPPONENTS SEE RED

A traditional dark horse in the Australian Waterpolo League, the Drummoyne Devils is one club ready for the challenges that the 2021 season presents.

When it comes to a winning formula, it will be all about club culture for the Devils.

Women’s captain Morgan Baxter said it’s something that they’ve been working on, and will continue working on throughout the tournament.

“This season is definitely the first time we’ve ever done an Australian Waterpolo League like this, so it’s going to be really interesting,” Baxter said.

“As a team to prepare for it, it’s not only about physical preparation but mentally and emotionally how we work together as a team.

“We’ve been focusing on how we can create a better culture at the club, and that’s something that will no doubt evolve across the week,” Baxter said.

With the 2021 season slated to be played across eight days in Brisbane, Baxter said it presents a unique opportunity for the players.

“In a normal national league season, everyone’s dealing with work, study or other commitments,” Baxter said.

“So to play this kind of format, where everyone commits for a week, it’s going to be really exciting.

“The girls in my team are really excited to bring their A-game, and we’re all looking forward to heading to the Sunshine State.

“For our team, a lot of what we’ve been working on is being able to go up there (Brisbane), have fun, play as a team, and play for each other.

“If we can focus on playing the best game we can play, everything else will fall into place,” she said.

Drummoyne men will be boosted by the return of KAP7 Aussie Sharks Lachy Edwards, who has been playing in Spain for CE Mediterrani.

Edwards will line up alongside his brother Blake Edwards, and fellow KAP7 Aussie Sharks squad member Aidan Roach, who will look to bring their experience from the national team to the 2021 Australian Waterpolo League.

The 2021 Australian Waterpolo League will kick off in Brisbane on Wednesday 31 March, with teams battling it out across seven days of competition before the all important finals at Brisbane Aquatic Centre on Wednesday 7 April.

The 2021 Australian Waterpolo League is a COVID Safe event in compliance with QLD Health guidelines.
