Aussies Sharks representing in LEN European Champions League

Three Aussie Sharks are currently representing the nation within their European club sides as part of the world renowned LEN European Champions League competition.

In Group A, Australian captain Aaron Younger will compete with Hungarian based team Ferencvaros, while Joe Kayes lines up for Italian powerhouse Pro Recco.

While in Group B, teammate Nathan Power continues to play in Croatia with VK Jadran Split.

The 2018/19 competition is spread across 14 gruelling rounds and demands clubs to perform consistently to take out the title. Watch all group matches live and free courtesy of the LEN TV - click here.

ROUND 4 WRAP: 5 December

JADRAN SPLIT 15 WASPO HANNOVER 10 | Power and VK Jadran Split came up against German team Waspo Hannover, with both teams searching for their first win after three rounds.

Once again Power managed to register himself on the scoreboard on the way to Jadran’s convincing 15-10 win.

FTC TELEKOM BUDAPEST 8 CNA BARCELONETA 9 | Aaron Younger and Ferencvaros took an early lead over Spanish team Barceloneta. Despite Younger's status as equal top goal scorer for the match with three successful shots before halftime, his side suffered a tough 8-9 loss, just four days after clinching the European Super Cup.

PRO RECCO 19 STEAUA BUCHAREST BA 7 | The match was played in Bologna as part of the Italian giants’ promotional tour and Aussie Joe Kayes performed once again with two goals of his own. A ruthless Pro Recco executed a goal scoring frenzy to continue undefeated in the competition and place them on top of their group.

ROUND 3 WRAP: 21 November

PRO RECCO 9 FTC TELEKOM BUDAPEST 6 | Pro Recco’s third round clash against Ferencvaros provided a showdown between Aussie Sharks teammates Aaron Younger and Joe Kayes. Both sides came into the clash undefeated after the first two rounds.

Last season’s runner up Pro Recco and Ferencvaros are both tipped to be strong title contenders. In a match scattered with Olympic and World Championship players, lots of excitement surrounded the game.

Younger helped his team edge in front early when he netted a shot in the first term. Down by two early in the last quarter, Ferencvaros scored with 4:43 remaining to close the gap. JADRAN SPLIT 10 HAVK MLADOST ZAGREB 12 | Nathan Power’s Jadran Split headed into the Croatian derby following two consecutive losses. Power brought his trademark physicality and received three fouls and an exclusion for his efforts. He did contribute where it mattered, on the scoreboard, with the first goal after halftime to level scores 5-5.

Heading into the last quarter, scores were 9-9 apiece, however Jadran Split suffered their third straight loss after being outscored and finishing 10-12 down.

ROUND 2 WRAP: 3 November

STEAUA BUCURESTI B.A. 6 FTC TELEKOM BUDAPEST 9 | Younger’s team found themselves behind on the scoreboard until just after halftime when Ferencvaros flipped the momentum. Younger sealed the result with the last goal for his team via a flick shot in the centre forward position to take a 9-6 win.

AN BRESCIA 8 PRO RECCO 9 | Favourites ahead of the Italian derby, Pro Recco and Joe Kayes had to withstand a late finish from their opposition to win 9-8. Joe Kayes scored one goal in the third quarter to continue his solid  for early in the competition.

JADRAN SPLIT 6 JUG DUBROVNIK 13 | Nathan Power got one goal in his side’s second consecutive defeat this time to his former Croatian club, Jug Dubrovnik, going down 6-13.

ROUND 1 WRAP: 17 October

FTC TELEKOM BUDAPEST 13 DYNAMO MOSCOW 6 | After transferring from Szolnoki to another Hungarian powerhouse in Ferencvaros, Aaron Younger scored a double in his team’s opening round 13-6 win over Dynamo Moscow.

VK CRVENA ZVEZDA 4 PRO RECCO 17 | Joe Kayes settled in quickly at his new club scoring a hat trick in their 17-4 drumming of Serbian side VK Crvena Zvezda.

SZOLNOKI DOZSA 10 JADRAN SPLIT 9 | In a match where Nathan Power’s Croatian club team always trailed they did well to push the 2017 LEN European Champions League winners from Hungary all the way in round one. In the end Power’s side were defeated by one goal.
