FREMANTLE AND UWA TO GO HEAD TO HEAD IN 5 GAME SERIES

Fremantle Water Polo Club and UWA Torpedoes are set to contest the KAP7 Cup (Western Australia), going head to head across a five-game series.

Due to ongoing border closures and travel restrictions, the two West Australian clubs were unable to take part in the 2022 Australian Waterpolo League season.

But Water Polo Australia (WPA), together with Water Polo Western Australia, Fremantle and UWA, have been working hard to create this crucial playing opportunity for both Clubs.

WPA CEO Richard McInnes said: “Despite not being able to participate in the 2022 Australian Waterpolo League, our two West Australian Clubs have continued to train and pursue opportunities for match play,” McInnes said.

“I am delighted that they are able to contest the KAP7 Cup and thank both clubs for their patience and cooperation during these challenging times.

“It is also exciting that Fremantle and UWA are going to be bringing the national league to regional WA for the first time, with the fourth round set to be held in Geraldton.

“As we look ahead, we still remain hopeful that the WA Clubs will be able to travel after March 31, to take part in the Challenger Series leading into the AWL finals.

“I’d also like to thank our major partners KAP7 Australia for their ongoing support of the Australian Waterpolo League, and the naming rights of the series in the West,” he said.

The games will be recognised as official Australian Waterpolo League games, however the point score will not carry over to Challenger Round (if WA teams are permitted to travel).
