12&U boys gold medal match goes down to the wire

The 12&U boys gold medal match went down to the wire, with SNB Breakers the eventual winners 4-3 over Sydney Uni Lions at the 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.
SNB took the lead early in the first quarter before Sydney Uni mounted a second quarter comeback to level the scores at half time.
But in the second half, SNB were simply too strong, and despite scoring one goal in the third quarter, it was the only goal they needed to put them in front and earn them the victory.
SNB Coach Jemma Semmens said that getting the gold medal win was the perfect ending to her team’s great week.
“That was a big win – the boys worked really hard and they’re stoked to get the win,” Semmens said.
“We were hoping to improve on our fourth place from last year and our preparations were really good heading into the tournament,” she said.
Semmens said that teamwork had been the key for her boys all week, and today was a great example of that.
“They’re a great bunch of boys and whole week they’ve just been picking each other up when things haven’t gone their way which has been really great to see,” Semmens said.
Mantas defeated Brisbane Barracudas to earn themselves the bronze medal.
Lachlan Davies from SNB Breakers was named Most Valuable Player and Sydney Uni’s Jake Cox was named Most Valuable Goal Keeper.
