Brisbane put on a show for the first day of the 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC).
The championships run across 12 days and five venues with more than 3500 participants taking part in over 900 games of water polo.

Jaden Weir from the North Brisbane Polo Bears 18&U Girls said that despite going down in their first game, the team are looking forward to a great championships.
“Day one was pretty tough, but we played our best and are looking forward to our second game,” Weir said.
“But we’re all really close friends and are always having fun so today it was good just to play together again,” she said.
Weir will have an action packed championships, competing in the 18&U division in Week 1 before joining her 16&U Polo Bears team mates in Week 2.
“I’m looking forward to learning new things and seeing how different teams work together,” Weir said.
“I love these championships, it’s a new experience, getting to play against different teams and having a crack with your team is what it’s all about.”
Adelaide Jets 18&U Boys team member Nat Swan said that his team are enjoying their time in Brisbane.
“It’s been really good so far, it’s a great opportunity with so many teams in the one place,” Swan said.
The Adelaide Jets Boys had a day of mixed results, going down to Brisbane Barracudas in game one, bouncing back to take the win over UNSW Wests Magpies in their second game.
Swan, attending the championships for his second year, said his team will relish the opportunity to play against teams from across the country.
“In Adelaide we don’t have as many teams as this, so it’s great to come up to Brisbane to play against teams from other states,” Swan said.
“I’m also really looking forward to seeing the Aussie teams play against the USA and seeing how they measure up,” he said.
The Aussie Stingers and KAP7 Aussie Sharks will take on the USA in three official test matches as part of the KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships on 14, 16 and 18 January at Brisbane Aquatic Centre.
