The Indigenous Round of the 2025 Australian Waterpolo League (AWL) did not disappoint with a plethora of goals scored and a number of tight contests.

CRONULLA SHARKS v UWA TORPEDOES
It was an interstate rivalry that got week 5 of the AWL underway with the Cronulla Sharks and the UWA Torpedoes facing off twice this week.
In the men’s games, it was the UWA Torpedoes who continued their season dominance, defeating Cronulla 16-13on Thursday night and 16-9 on Saturday afternoon.
In the women’s games, the tables were reversed and the Cronulla Sharks emerged on top in both matches, winning 18-10 Thursday night and 9-6 on Saturday afternoon.
DRUMMOYNE DEVILS v UWA TORPEDOES
There were no roses shared in the Valentines Day matchups between the Drummoyne Devils and the UWA Torpedoes who went on to meet again at the Drummoyne Swimming Pool on Sunday.
In the women’s games a goal scoring spree by Christina DiGiandomenico guided the Devils to back-to-back weekend victories, winning 18-16 on Friday and 16-13 on Sunday afternoon.
In the men’s games, the Torpedoes triumphed over the homeside in a 13-14 thriller before the Drummoyne Devils produced a 13-10 upset over the visitors.
UTS BALMAIN TIGERS v SYDNEY UNI LIONS
The UTS Balmain Tigers and Sydney Uni Lions got a weekend of exciting matches underway at the Dawn Fraser Baths.
In the women’s games, it was the Sydney Uni Lions who won both match ups, winning 12-8 on Saturday and 12-11 on Sunday.
In the men’s games, the second placed Sydney Uni Lions claimed a 13-6 victory on Saturday afternoon against the UTS Balmain Tigers, before Balmain hit back on Sunday winning 18-14.
HUNTER HURRICANE v GRIFFITH UNI QUEENSLAND THUNDER
The Griffith Uni Queensland Thunder based themselves in Newcastle for a double header against the Hunter Hurricanes this weekend.
In the men’s games, the Thunder took the league points from both matches back home to Queensland after winning 14-12 on Saturday and 20-8 on Sunday.
In the women’s games, the Thunder showed once again why they are leading the league, beating the Hurricanes 15-4 on Saturday and 13-5 on Sunday.
VICTORIAN PHOENIX v FREMANTLE MARLINS/MARINERS
In one of the final fixtures of the Indigenous Round, Fremantle headed down to Melbourne to take on the Victorian Phoenix.
In the men’s games, the Mariners were dominant over the homeside, winning 17-11 on Saturday and 18-13 on Sunday.
In the women’s games, like their male counterparts, the Marlins recorded comfortable victories, winning 17-7 on Saturday and 15-5 on Sunday.
