2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships - Week 1 Day 4 Wrap
Published Thu 17 Apr 2025
Semi finals fever has taken over pools across Perth for the penultimate day of week one of the 2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC).
Day four saw teams across our 18&U and 14&U divisions battle it out for lucrative spots in tomorrow's finals, with the action from three pools at Perth High Performance Centre livestreamed on KommunityTV - watch the replays here.
However, win or lose, no team walked away from today’s games empty handed - all taking with them invaluable match experience and memories.
Playing at the AYWPC for the first time this year was 14&U Gold UWA Torpedoes player Max, who said that he has been loving the opportunity to face teams from the east.
“It's been really fun playing with the other teams from the other states, especially the eastern teams, because we don't really play them that often,” Max said.
Nordek 14&U Girls Green team have been having a strong AYWPC campaign, with player Vivienne putting their performances down to having a great team culture.
“I love playing with these girls…they're all so nice and supportive,” said Vivienne.
“If someone makes a mistake, it's not a big deal, It's just you'll do better next time”.
For 18&U Boys Green Tasmania player Alex, it is the ‘vibe’ the AYWPC fosters that keeps him coming back year on year.
“It’s just more relaxed there's more people around and, up here in Perth, it's blue sky every day, and we're just having a lot of fun,” Alex said.
“We take away a lot from playing (in the AYWPC)... I play centre back and I take loads back home with me and apply all that into my comps.”
Similarly, Nordek 18&U Girls Gold players Nook and Liv, love the opportunity to not only play the amount of games on offer here in Perth, but to face high quality opponents.
“We get to take on the best teams from around Australia, not just teams within our own metro comp,” Nook said.
“Having something to look forward to and when you get to stay together with your team, it is so much fun,” Liv added.
“You have friends from all different teams, so just seeing them in one spot is really good.”
