2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships - Week 1 Day 3 Wrap

The competition heated up on day three of the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships, as teams reached the final pool games and cross over stages.

The action from three pools at Perth High Performance Centre livestreamed on KommunityTV - watch the replays here.

18&U Girls Gold UTS Balmain Tigers team mates Evelyn and Harley are playing in 18&U age group this week, as well as the 16&U Girls Gold division next week.

“I think it’s really good because we get to gain a lot of experience from the girls that we play with,” Evelyn said.

“The game is a step up from 16s, and the environment and how much they push each other, but we learn a lot from it,” she said.

“It’s really good playing with all the older girls, and it’s such a good environment to play in,” Harley added.

With a 17-7 win against UQ Barras in their final pool game, the Balmain girls are looking forward to finals over the next couple of days

“We had a good win this morning that will set us up well for the finals,” Harley said.

“The tournament so far has been really good for us, and we’re pretty confident going into the finals,” Evelyn said.

Hamish from Melville 14&U Boys Gold is loving welcoming teams from across the country to his own backyard in Western Australia.

“I love meeting other teams that are different from who we normally play against here in Perth,” Hamish said.

“Our focus has just been on doing all the basic stuff right, and making sure we’re playing for the team and not just ourselves,” he said.

For SNB Breakers 14&U Girls team mates Lindsay, Alexa and Emma the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships is all about enjoying time with their team mates and having fun playing sport.

“It’s really fun playing against some new clubs that we don’t play on Sundays (in Sydney). And it’s really fun to play with your friends in a competition that you could possibly win,” Lindsay said.

“Playing against different teams from different areas is really fun, and meeting new people as well,” Alexa added.

“The pressure is on because you want to win, but it’s really fun because you get to play with your friends and play lots of games of water polo,” Emma said.

18&U Boys Gold Sydney Uni Lions’ player Harry said he’s having a great time in Perth, and looking forward to playing some more high quality games as we approach the week one finals.

“I’m seriously enjoying the AYC tournament, it’s such a good opportunity to play against such extraordinary teams from all different states and territories,” Harry said.

“I’m looking forward to playing in the semi finals with my team, and hopefully to the final from there, so we can bring home a medal to Sydney.

“You always try your best and to win games, but nationals is just that one step up and I think every team knows that anyone can win here, everyone has the same opportunity to win, and everyone gives it their all and that’s why there are so many close games,” he said.
