2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships - Week 2 Day 3 Wrap
Published Tue 22 Apr 2025
The second week of the 2025 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships has reached the halfway point, as teams went head to head in their final round games, and quarterfinals for some, today.
The action from three pools at Perth High Performance Centre was livestreamed on KommunityTV - watch the replays here.
As the competition heated up, pools across Perth were buzzing, as teams continued to enjoy playing water polo while anticipating the third and final test match between the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks and New Zealand tonight.
Rok and Ashton from Melville 12&U Boys said the AYWPC experience has been a memorable one so far, and they are looking forward to making more memories over the coming days.
“I really enjoy playing here with all the other Australian clubs, it’s really fun and enjoyable to play,” Rok said.
“It’s really cool seeing all of the different clubs' skills and abilities, and to see what levels each state is at,” Ashton added.
“The weather has been awesome, and it’s all just been awesome so far,” he said.
A highlight for Rok, Ashton and a lot of the players here at AYPWC has been getting to watch and meet their heroes…the Ord Minnett Aussie Sharks.
“It’s really amazing talking to them about how they play, and learning from them,” Rok said.
“I watched the last game, and I got every signature so that was pretty cool. It was so good having conversations with them,” Ashton said.
Grace and Ava from Geraldton 16&U Girls Green said their highlight has been playing against teams from right across the country.
“It’s quite surreal actually, they’re from the other side of Australia and I never would have met them if it wasn’t for AYC,” Grace said.
“Everyone is an excellent player, and they deserve to be here, and it’s been great to play against them,” she said.
“It’s a fun environment, and everyone is so nice. It’s really tough, and everyone is trying their hardest all at the same time,” Ava said.
Frankie from SNB Breakers 12&U has been enjoying some success in the pool this week with her team, but said it’s the fun times they’ve had out of the pool that are equally memorable.
“AYC has been good, I’ve loved playing so many games of water polo,” Frankie said.
“We hope to win the final on Thursday so we can push our coach in the pool.
“Also just want to give a shout out to our friend Sammy. She broke her arm, and couldn’t come over here with us - we miss you Sammy!” she said.
Josh and Myles from South Australia’s 16&U Boys Green said a combination of playing against different teams, and getting to play lots of games, has been the highlight for them.
“It’s been going great, it’s a pretty good comp we’ve had so far and I’m pretty happy with what we’ve been able to do,” Myles said.
“We’ve loved being able to play so much water polo - at home we play once a week but out here you get to play two games a day and it’s just great fun,” he said.
“It’s a great experience, especially for the younger players coming through. They can play at a high skill level, and against different people who train differently,” Josh added.
