60 seconds with Daniel Lawrence

Hunter Hurricanes and former Aussie Sharks player Daniel Lawrence recently notched up 300 appearances in Australia’s national water polo league when his Hurricanes side faced UTS Balmain Tigers.
WPA caught up with Lawrence briefly to reflect on his magnificent milestone which has come through stints at Hunter Hurricanes, Fremantle Mariners and Melbourne. So here's 10 questions in 60 seconds with Daniel Lawrence:
- How did you find out about water polo? Through my uncles and parents, they all played water polo for Lake Macquarie.
- How many years have you been playing the sport? 20.
- Which Club did you play your first junior water polo match at? Lake Macquarie Dolphins - find out more about his junior Club here.
- What is your earliest water polo memory? My first A grade game in the local league which was about 16 years ago now.
- What is your best water polo highlight from the last 20 years? Playing in and winning a national league final. I’ve won five gold medals across two teams, four with the Fremantle Mariners and one with Melbourne.
- What's the highest level of water polo you have played? Aussie Sharks (Australia's senior men's team).
- What is your favourite water polo position? Right hand driver.
- What is your favourite water polo saying? “Bar in.”
- What is your top tip for youngster’s coming through with dreams to play in the OVO AWL? Ensure you have a solid study/work life balance is important, don’t burn out!
- Why should somebody play water polo? You get mates for life all over the world, it’s a great experience!
