Action continues on day two in Brisbane for 2022 Summer Slam

Pools across Brisbane were again buzzing today, with the 2022 Summer Slam in full swing.

After a great first day yesterday, teams returned to Fortitude Valley Pool, Musgrave Park Pool, Langlands Park Memorial Pool and Yeronga Park Pool for another day of state versus state action. The draw progressed to quarterfinals stages for some, with others playing their final round games.

In the U16 boys division, Queensland Gold recorded their first win of the tournament, defeating Barbarians 13-8.

Queensland representative Lachlan Elliott said his team was very happy with the win.

“Now it’s the second day, we’re getting used to each other and playing together more as a team,” Elliott said.

“We’re communicating better in the pool and I think that’s what really got us over the line.

“If we keep playing well together as a team, we’ll hopefully do well with the finals that are coming up.

“We just need to make sure we keep communicating well, that’s a big thing for our team,” he said.

The U16 girls took to the pool at Langlands again, and ACT representative Savannah Bogar said they were grateful to be back playing against other states again.

“We’ve never really come to a national tournament as a team, and we haven’t been able to play tough competition like this in a while,” Bogar said.

“It’s been good to get the team back together and each game is tough, but we’re having fun.

“Getting the experience of playing against teams like Queensland and New South Wales has been a good learning opportunity for us.

“Tomorrow we’re playing the Barbarians which we’re looking forward to, and we don’t really know what to expect from them.

“We’re just loving being here in Brisbane, it’s so nice up here and the weather has been so good so far,” she said,
