OVO AWL FINALISTS LOCKED IN
Published Thu 02 May 2019
After 11 rounds of competition the 2019 OVO Australian Waterpolo League Finals Series has arrived with the top six men’s and women’s teams set to battle it out for their titles at Sydney Olympic Park Aquatic Centre beginning Friday 3 May.
One team will remain standing from a field of six after three days of intense water polo action.
The season comes down to this, after 360 matches played in the regular season, twelve teams from across New South Wales, Queensland and Western Australia go head to head in what will be Australian water polo at its best.
The top two teams in each competition have earned themselves an extra day off with their first finals match scheduled for Saturday, while teams who finished third through to sixth will cap up from Friday.
For the first time since joining the competition in 2008, the Drummoyne Devils’ Men’s team claimed the minor premiership and will be tough to beat this weekend.
Just across the Iron Cove bridge arch rivals UTS Balmain Tigers took out the women’s minor premiership before the final round had even commenced.
Defending champions Sydney Uni Lions (men's) and UNSW Wests Killer Whales (women’s) will return to the same pool just one year on from where they experienced success last season.
