ASAPD COLLABORATING WITH WATER POLO AUSTRALIA ON NEW STRATEGY
Published Wed 17 May 2023
Water Polo Australia’s (WPA) Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (IDE) Strategy was developed by a Steering Panel that featured a great cross section of people from the water polo community as well as industry leaders and advocates.
Australian Sporting Alliance for People with a Disability (ASAPD) collaborated with the WPA IDE Steering Panel to offer insights around creating an inclusivity in water polo for people with disability, impairment or limitations.
Commenting on the collaboration between Water Polo Australia and ASAPD, WPA General Manager – Strategy and Special Projects, Holly Tyrell, said: “We know that water polo across Australia has provided opportunities for people with a disability to take part at a grassroots level.
“But our Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Strategy wanted to identify ways to make the sport event more accessible for people with disability, impairment or limitations.
“The Australian Sporting Alliance for People with a Disability has provided us with valuable insights and strategies that can be used within our IDE action plan and will be a great partner we can continue to collaborate with,” she said.
ASAPD Project Manager Garry West-Bail also supported the initiative commenting: “It is a privilege to be involved in the intersectionality of the working group where everybody was able to provide their valuable input. ASAPD is pleased that our one voice strategy of providing a point of contact for the NSODs has benefitted WPAs development of their new IDE and we wish them all the best in their continued progress,” said Garry.
