AUSSIE SHARKS ARRIVE IN FRANCE FOR FINA MEN’S WORLD LEAGUE SUPER FINAL

The Australian Men’s Water Polo team are putting the final touches on their preparations for the FINA Men’s World League Super Final which gets underway on Friday 22 July.

Having remained in Europe following the FINA World Championships in Budapest last month, the Aussie Sharks have been training INSEP in Paris with the French National Team.

The Aussie Sharks are now focused on the next task ahead, the Men’s World League Super Final where they have been drawn in Group 1 with reigning Olympic champions Serbia, European powerhouses Montenegro and 2022 World Champions Spain.

Host city France will battle it out with the USA, Italy and Canada in Group 2.

Aussie Sharks co-captain Nathan Power said the group are looking forward to getting back into competition after a solid training block.

“We are excited and looking forward to getting some more games under our belt as a group at this level,” Power said.

“The French have a great facility at INSEP and it was cool to be in the city that will host the Olympics in 2024.

“This tournament is a culmination of our Europe tour, and the biggest thing for this group is to continue growing together and improving with each game we get.

“With this tournament, we have a great opportunity to develop given the quality of all eight teams that will be here in Strasbourg,” he said.

Having played against some of the teams at the recent FINA World Championships, Power said the Aussie Sharks are ready for the challenges which lie ahead.

“We are a team that is growing and this tournament will be a great opportunity to continue that growth, putting in place the lessons we have learnt after our World Championships campaign,” Power said.

“We showed in our game against Serbia at World that when we are able to execute our game plan for four quarters, we can have a good game against a high level opponent.

“Our opponents here at the World League Finals will be relentless, and punish any lapses we might have, but that is a test we are ready to face,” he said.

The Aussie Sharks will play their first game against reigning World Champions Spain on Saturday 23 July at 12am AEST.
