AUSSIE SHARKS PREPARE FOR WORLD AQUATICS WORLD CUP

Water Polo Australia has confirmed the 15-strong Aussie Sharks squad ahead of their first World Aquatics World Cup match.
The Aussie Sharks have been training in Kotor, Montenegro in the lead up to the competition, making the most of the opportunity to train and play alongside European powerhouse Montenegro.
Aussie Sharks co-captain and Tokyo Olympian Blake Edwards said the training camp has given the whole squad the chance to come together and refine preparations for the World Cup.
“The training camp was excellent for us, it was a really good opportunity to play against quality opposition in Montenegro,” Edwards said.
“Overall I think it was pleasing to see that we were competitive in all of the practice matches against them.
“It’s been a really promising camp and a good opportunity to build ahead of the World Cup this week,” he said.
Fellow Aussie Sharks co-captain and Tokyo Olympian Nathan Power said it was great to welcome the group back together in the training camp environment.
“The team is very excited at the moment - it’s the first time this year that we’ve got everyone together…the Australian based players and European based players,” Power said.
“We were lucky to train with Montenegro leading into the World Cup, and they are a team that we’ve matched up well against at the World Championships last year and World League Super Finals as well.
“The way this tournament has been structured is every team we’re playing against finished in the top 12 at last year’s World Championships.
“The World Cup will be a good opportunity for us to test ourselves against very strong opponents,” he said.
The Aussie Sharks World Aquatics World Cup campaign will get underway on Thursday 9 March 2023 at 1.30am against Serbia. Every game will be LIVE and FREE on World Aquatics Youtube channel - CLICK HERE
