AUSSIE STINGERS SQUAD ANNOUNCED FOR WORLD CUP
Published Mon 27 Mar 2023
Water Polo Australia is pleased to announce the Aussie Stingers squad for the World Aquatic Women’s Water Polo World Cup.
The Women’s Water Polo World Cup will take place over two rounds, kicking off in Rotterdam (NED) from 11-13 April, before heading to Athens (GRE) from 19-21 April.
The 15-strong squad will have a short camp in Australia, before heading to Greece for a training camp.
Aussie Stingers Head Coach Paul Oberman said he has assembled a team which has gained plenty of experiences last year and is looking forward to seeing what they can produce at the World Cup.
“Our team for the World Cup has got some very talented people, and some players with a wealth of experience,” Oberman said.
“We’ll also welcome back seven players that have been playing in Europe, all who have some good experiences for us to leverage off.
“We’ve got a team that’s really invested in each other and believes that we can produce something special.
“So having some players back that weren’t part of the squad for the test matches in January will be great,” he said.
In the first round of the Women’s Water Polo World Cup, the Aussie Stingers will come up against the Netherlands, Hungary and Greece.
“It’s very important that we perform in the first round of the World Cup,” Oberman siad.
“We had a really good base to build from last year on the international scene, and we want to see that continue to improve.
“Right from the start of the World Cup we want to put together some solid performances, to make a mark to qualify for the World Cup Finals as soon as we can.
“But also gain as much experience as we can playing against the European teams,” he said.
