AUSTRALIAN WOMEN’S WATER POLO PLAYERS GO HEAD TO HEAD WITH WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS SELECTION ON THE LINE
Published Wed 24 May 2023
The Australian women’s water polo program is proud to host the National Team Challenge over the next two weekends.
With the opening round held in Brisbane last weekend, the National Team Challenge provides an opportunity for current and future Aussie Stingers to play high quality water polo.
The National Team Challenge features four teams: Queensland Academy of Sport (QAS), New South Wales Institute of Sport (NSWIS), Australian 20&U Women, and a combined team bringing together athletes from Western Australia, Victoria, South Australia and the ACT.
Aussie Stingers Head Coach Paul Oberman said he’s been impressed with the competition so far.
“The National Team Challenge is a great opportunity for our women to continue playing high quality water polo post the Australian Waterpolo League season,” Oberman said.
“Not only is it a chance for our senior athletes to make their tilt for the World Championships team, but for our up-and-coming juniors to play against the best athletes in Australia.
“We will also be welcoming back some of our Stingers who have spent the last few months in Europe and the United States, which will be a great boost for our program.
“This weekend we will have three action packed days, before the final weekend in Canberra next weekend,” he said.
Games get underway this Friday 26 May 2023 at 4.30pm AEST at Auburn Swimming Pool. Spectators are not required to purchase tickets, however will be asked to pay for entry to the pool.
The Aussie Stingers World Championships team will be announced following the conclusion of the National Team Challenge.
