AUSTRALIAN REFEREES OFFICIATING ON THE WORLD STAGE

Water Polo Australia would like to recognise and congratulate a number of officials who have been rewarded with inclusion in World Aquatics international tournaments during 2023.
Six Australian water polo referees have been appointed to officiate at international events this year, including the World Aquatics World Cup and World Aquatics Championships.
WPA National Officials Manager Michael Hart said these appointments acknowledge the individual’s consistent performances throughout the domestic season at all levels.
“I’d like to congratulate all of our Australian referees who will be heading overseas to officiate during the international season,” Hart said.
“These selections are an appropriate recognition of the dedication and performance of these referees.
“It is also a confirmation of the strength of our competitions, which play a vital role in ensuring the continued development of Australian referees to their selection to tournaments of international standard,” he said.

Andrew Carney (ACT) – Men’s U20 World Championships in Otopeni/Bucharest, Romania (referee)
Daniel Bartels (NSW) - Men’s Water Polo World Cup Qualifications in Zagreb, Croatia (referee)
Fiona Haigh (WA) – Women’s Water Polo World Cup Qualifications in Rotterdam and Athens (referee) and Women’s Water Polo World Cup Finals in Long Beach USA (neutral referee)
Nicola Johnson (QLD) – World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka, Japan (referee)
Liz Burman (WA) – World Aquatics Masters Championships in Kyushu, Japan (referee)
Danny Flahive (VIC) – World Aquatics Masters Championships in Kyushu, Japan (referee)
Russell McKinnon (WA) - World Aquatics Masters Championships in Kyushu, Japan (referee)
Ash Kaesler (QLD) – Women’s U20 World Championships in Coimbra, Portugal (referee)
