The newest event on the FINA World Championships schedule will be Beach Polo fours and Australia is set to take centre stage!

Water Polo Australia (WPA) is pleased to announce the Australian Women’s Beach Polo Team for the 2019 FINA World Championships in South Korea.

FINA invited four nations for the women’s exhibition tournament that will be held alongside the traditional water polo competition.

The demonstration event will feature four men’s and four women’s teams with Australia’s selection in the women’s event based on continental representation.

The Australian team will face China, Spain and USA in three pool rounds with the event to culminate in medals playoff.

Water Polo Australia’s High Performance Manager, Aleksandr Osadchuk, said the Beach Polo is an exciting new addition to the international water polo scene.

“We have seen in Australia a real excitement around Beach Polo fours competition and we are excited to have a national team representing our country for the first ever international demonstration event.

“We received a high caliber of applications through the expression of interest process we ran for the team position and we have players from across the country who’ll represent Australia.

“The team assembled will be coached by Olympian Taryn Woods, who’ll be bringing her expertise to squad,” he said.

The Beach Polo competition at the FINA World Championships kicks off this Saturday 13 July 2019 in South Korea.
