Tasmania/Triton 16&U Girls are one of the composite teams competing in Perth, coming together from opposite sides of the country to play under the same cap.
Players Scarlett Poor (WA) and Millie Halliwell (TAS) are enjoying the experience of playing in a team with each other, despite only meeting for the first time a few days ago.
“It’s really good, we’re a mixed team so it’s good to have met new people and made new friends,” Halliwell said.
“It’s good to meet people from other states and join teams. I’ve really liked showing them our venues, and taking them around Perth when we’re outside of the pool,” Poor added.
“It’s a whole new experience, everyone is at different levels, the competition is really taken up a notch. The harder the level is, the more you learn and we’re loving that,” Halliwell said.
It’s really great to see different strategies, work together and learn from each other,” she said.
“We’ve won a couple and lost a couple, we played well but the other teams were just a little bit better. But it gives us our team experience and more opportunities to learn,” Poor said.
Will Watkins from 16&U Richmond Boys said his team are enjoying the new challenges that the AYWPC competition is presenting.
“We played very hard on day one and were a bit tired today but that's okay,” Watkins said.
“At home in Victoria, we play the same teams so it’s been good to play against some different teams here in Perth.
“It’s good to get the practice and add some of the things that the other teams are doing to our game too.
“Going into the competition we didn’t think we’d be able to match it with some of the other teams, and there’s a pretty high standard here and we’re going well so far,” he said.
