AUSTRALIAN YOUTH WATER POLO CHAMPIONSHIPS - WEEK 2 DAY 3 WRAP
Published Tue 17 Jan 2023
The 2023 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships 12&U and 16&U competition continued to heat up in Perth today.
Teams went head to head in the final pool games, and cross over finals before tomorrow’s semi finals at HBF Stadium.
Peter Venetoulus and James Ilic Gallo are from Sydney Uni Lions 12&U Boys team, who currently remain undefeated.
But for the youngest age group at the AYWPC, it’s about much more than results, Venetoulus and Ilic Gallo adding that they are loving their first experience at a national competition.
“It’s very exciting and it’s been very tough so far,” Ilic Gallo said.
“It’s different to playing against the Sydney teams at home, which is super fun,” Venetulous said.
“We’ve been training together for a team as a whole year, training our hardest every single team and it’s great getting to play water polo here in Perth.
“We’ve got one more game and then finals - we’re still undefeated so fingers crossed,” he said.
Gold Coast 16&U Boys are loving their time in Perth, and looking forward to some great experiences outside of the pool too.
“It’s fun to come here every day, come to Perth and hang out as a team,” Ethan Pulford said.
“Our team is so dedicated, and we’re loving other games,” he said.
“We’re also loving watching other teams, and learning things so that we can improve as well,” Hudson Dilkes said.
“Coming here is next level to what we’re used to at home, so it’s pretty cool,” he said.
“As a team tomorrow we’re going to a water park and an adventure park and we’re really excited about that,” Riley McPharlin said.
“We spent a day on Rottnest Island and got to see the quokkas too which was really fun,” Nathan Gibson said.
