AWL HEAD COACH APOLOGIES FOR BEHAVIOUR TOWARDS REFEREES
Published Tue 22 Feb 2022
UNSW Wests Killer Whales Head Coach, Greg McFadden, has apologised publicly and privately for his poor behaviour toward AWL officials during a game at Drummoyne on 28 January 2022. As an experienced and respected coach within the Water Polo community, it is critical that the right example be set, not only for players but also emerging coaches, sport officials and the broader community.
WPA CEO, Richard McInnes, said: “While coaches, players and spectators may not always agree with the decisions of the officials, it is imperative that we respect the role they play in the game, and manage our own behaviour accordingly.
“If officials are disrespected by our coaches, it will be increasingly difficult to attract and develop high quality officials, which ultimately has a negative impact on the experience for everyone.
“We must work collectively to support the development of players, coaches and officials to continually raise the standard at all levels. We all have a role to play and we must show respect for the value of everyone involved in Water Polo.
“We welcome Mr McFadden’s apology to those officials and our water polo community,” he said.
