The Australian Waterpolo League season continued over the weekend, with Round 5 and 6 taking place at pools across the country.

CHAMPIONSHIP DIVISION

MEN | Sydney Uni Lions v Drummoyne Devils

The Sydney Uni Lions met with cross town rivals Drummoyne Devils in Round 5 and 6 of the Australian Waterpolo League.

The Lions roared as one on Friday night to win 15-6. On Saturday, nothing could separate the two sides, the game ending in a 13-13 draw.

 

MEN | UTS Balmain Tigers v UNSW Wests Magpies

The UNSW Wests Magpies men cemented their spot atop of the Australian Waterpolo League championship table with two wins against UTS Balmain Tigers over the weekend.

On Saturday, UNSW claimed a three goal victory (9-6) before going one better on Sunday (10-6).

MEN | UWA Torpedoes v ACU Cronulla Sharks

The ACU Cronulla Sharks made the trip west for Round 5 and 6, to meet UWA Torpedoes in their home pool.

The home side managed to claim a one goal victory on Saturday, before the visitors bounced back on Sunday to win 13-9.

WOMEN | UWA Torpedoes v ACU Cronulla Sharks

UWA Torpedoes made their mark on the 2023 Australian Waterpolo League competition over the weekend, with two games against 2022 runners up ACU Cronulla Sharks.

On Saturday, UWA Torpedoes powered home to deliver a 13-4 win. On Sunday, the teams were evenly matched, the game ending in a 9-all draw.

 

WOMEN | Griffith University Queensland Thunder v UTS Balmain Tigers

The reigning champions, Griffith University Queensland Thunder, bounced back over the weekend, claiming two wins at home at Fortitude Valley Pool.

On Saturday, the home side edged ahead by one to win 10-9. Sunday’s game followed a similar fashion, with Griffith Uni Queensland Thunder winning 11-10.

 

WOMEN | Fremantle Marlins v Sydney Uni Lions

Sydney Uni Lions also made the trip across the Nullarbor to play in Perth for Round 5 and 6.

They met up with Fremantle Marlins, who cemented their spot atop of the Australian Waterpolo League table, as the only unbeaten team within the league.

On Saturday, Fremantle managed to claim a one goal victory. In one of many similar results over the weekend, Sunday’s game was drawn 12-12.

 

SOUTHERN CROSS CUP


MEN | FYFE Adelaide/Hobart Jets v Victorian Phoenix

FYFE Adelaide/Hobart Jets hosted Victorian Phoenix in Adelaide for Round 5 and 6 of the Southern Cross Cup.

The Victorian Phoenix claimed bragging rights with two wins, 16-12 on Saturday and 13-12 on Sunday. 

WOMEN | FYFE Adelaide/Hobart Jets v Victorian Phoenix 

The FYFE Adelaide/Hobart Jets claimed their first two wins of the Australian Waterpolo League season over the weekend against Victorian Phoenix.

On Saturday, the home team stormed home to win 11-8 before going on to claim a one goal victory on Sunday, 7-6.

 

WOMEN | Drummoyne Devils v Hunter Hurricanes

Drummoyne Devils met up against Hunter Hurricanes over the weekend in a two game tussle.

Drummoyne Devils proved to be the better side, adding two more wins to their season haul - 14-8 on Saturday and 16-11 on Sunday.
