In Group B, Adelaide Jets player Nat Swan was happy with their 12-8 win over ACT, after mixed results on day one.
“It was a really good game from the boys, we started with good counter attack goals and swam really hard up the pool and our press defence was also really strong.
“The tournament is great, it’s a nice atmosphere and it’s good having all the teams here. All the boys are loving it and looking forward to the rest of the week,” he said.
At any one time there were four games happening at Brisbane Aquatic Centre alone, with local Brisbane side River City taking an early morning victory against UWA Gold in the U14 men’s.
Lining up in his first ever national championships, River City’s Aaron Bagster said it is an amazing feeling playing here.
“River City is the best club there is! Before nationals I was excited but also knew there are so many strong teams so it will be tough.
“From day one I’ve learnt to play hard and don’t stay up too late. I think it’s great to meet lots of new people, it’s fun,” he said.
Across town the U14 Girls sides took over Stuartholme school, with some friendly rivalry producing quality water polo action.
ACU Cronulla Sharks, Ruby Lancaster is lining up in her second national titles and said her team is enjoying the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.
“We are going ok, we could have gone better we’re getting back up and getting more pumped for the rest of the games.
“Everyone is enjoying it, they are really excited to be here and we have been preparing for the past couple of weeks beforehand,” she said.
Abby Johnson from Newman Water Polo in Perth, is experiencing her first national championships with her young side that have been playing together for two years.
