The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships will make a stunning return to Brisbane, Queensland in January 2024.
From 5 to 16 January 2024, the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships will be held across Brisbane with an expected 3,000 participants from around 180 teams set to take part.
Water Polo Australia CEO, Richard McInnes, said that after a year away, the AYWPC will return to Brisbane, the city that helped launch the event.
“Water Polo Australia is pleased to have the Australian Youth Water Polo Championships return to Brisbane, the city that helped launch the event in 2019 and has successfully hosted it on three occasions.
“Thanks to our strong partnership with Brisbane City Council and Queensland Government, we are thrilled to have our marquee event return to the river city in 2024.
“The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships in the largest water polo Club competition in the Southern Hemisphere, with competitors aged 12-18 years old taking part.
“AYWPC provides young competitors great participation opportunities, but also unearths a new generation of talent. The very participants competing in Brisbane at the 2024 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships could very well be taking part at the 2032 Olympic Games in the same city.
“The festival of water polo will also see our Olympic squads, the Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers, host international teams as part of an international test series. January 2024 is only six months out from the Paris Olympic Games, with the test matches set to provide our local fans the last chance to see the Aussies in action on home soil, before the Olympics,” he said.
The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships will be held in venues across Brisbane during the following dates:
- 5-10 January 2024*: 18&U and 14&U age groups
- 11-16 January 2024*: 16&U and 12&U age groups
