Water Polo Australia is pleased to announce the 18-person squad that has been selected in preparation for the FINA World Youth Championships later this year in Netanya, Israel.
An extended squad recently trained in Brisbane for a week long training camp proceeding the KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships. The squad of 18 now selected will participate in an additional three camps prior to the World Championships.
Australian Youth Women’s Head Coach, Phillip Bower, said that he’s confident that the squad he has selected will rise to the occasion.
“The squad are very excited, but they know that now they’ve got to put in the hard work,” Bower said.
“We’ve talked about where we want to go as a squad, and adapted a motto of fitter, faster, stronger, smarter.” he said.
Bower said that he was impressed with how the squad trained together in Brisbane and is looking forward to getting the girls back together again.
“I was really happy with the training camp that we had in Brisbane, the girls all put in the hard yards and we were able to have a lot of pool time together,” Bower said.
“But now they’re all back in their home states working hard before we come back together again in March.”
They will now attend two selection camps in Sydney (6-8 March and 13-18 April) before the final team is selected shortly after the National Championships in Adelaide (21-24 May).
The team will travel to Europe for a pre-tournament training camp, before they head to Netanya, Israel for the FINA World Youth Women’s Water Polo Championships in September.
