Jackson (left in above picture) and Corey Brown (right) will represent Drummoyne Water Polo Club over both weeks at the inaugural Australian Youth Water Polo Championships starting this Saturday in Brisbane.
Water polo has been in the Brown family for over five decades and when the family moved back to Australia from Hong Kong in 2014, the brothers quickly found themselves at the red and white club.
Fresh off the back of the Water Polo NSW State Championships, Jackson will play in week one (12-17 Jan) at Brisbane in Drummoyne’s 18&U Boys team.
“I’m very proud to be representing Drummoyne. In Brisbane we will be playing with a team which has a mixed bag of experience, so we are hoping to improve on our result from state and gain more experience over the week.”
Jackson just loves the sport and in what will be his final national championships says that he is feeling excited.
“You are constantly working while also trying to be tactical with each individual play in water polo, but hopefully in my last nationals we can achieve a good result,” he said.
“I’m excited to be going to my final national tournament and hopefully achieve a good result,” he said.
Younger brother Corey kicks off his tournament with the 16&U Boys Drummoyne Black team in week two (19-24).
As a right-handed centre forward, Corey likes to shoot and replicate Aussie Sharks hero Joe Kayes.
“We finished third in the State Championships so as a team we are hoping to improve on this.
“I like water polo because it is good for your fitness and it is a lot of fun,” he said.
While Corey didn’t play in the bronze medal winning team late last year due to a broken hand, he will be fully recovered and raring to go for their first match.
