Central Coast water polo clubs have united for the 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships (AYWPC), with the formation of five teams set to line up at the tournament that kicks off this Saturday.

Players from The Entrance, Wyong, Woy Woy and Gosford Water Polo Clubs will form part of the Central Coast teams which will contest the 14&U Boys and Girls, 16&U Boys and Girls and 18&U Girls divisions, joining the more than 180 teams from across Australia that will feature as part of the AYWPC.

Central Coast Water Polo President Rob Hueston said that the players who attended the inaugural event were so happy and excited to be a part of it again in 2020

“The Australian Youth Water Polo Championships are something that a lot of the kids have been working hard towards being able to compete at again,” Hueston said.

“The event gives our players the opportunity to learn from other clubs around the country, to help develop their skills and knowledge of the game.”

Just before the 2019 AYWPC , Central Coast Water Polo set up an Academy program to support the growing need and interest shown by a number of their players to develop their skills.

“The program has been an important development for our region as we typically don’t get the high level of intense competition that city clubs get on a weekly basis.

“A key component of the Academy program was to play in the Sydney Winter Competition in 2019, where we could raise the profile of our juniors and expose them to the high level of intensity.

“This proved to be not only a learning experience, but successful for both our teams, and has formed a crucial part of their AYWPC preparations,” he said.

Hueston said that the five Central Coast Water Polo teams are all looking forward to the 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.

“Given our team consists of players from four local clubs, the teams rarely get to play together in regular competitions,” Hueston said.

“So the Youth Championships are a great opportunity for our representative players to come together, make friends, learn more about the game of water polo and most importantly have fun!”

The 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships are set to kick off in Brisbane on Saturday 11 January.

The two week festival of water polo will be complemented by an international test match series, where the Aussie Stingers and KAP7 Aussie Sharks will take on the USA in three official tests at the Brisbane Aquatic Centre on 14, 16 and 18 January.
