CMSPORT WORKING IN PARTNERSHIP WITH WATER POLO AUSTRALIA
Published Wed 17 May 2023
Water Polo Australia (WPA) recently launched its Inclusion, Diversity and Equity (IDE) Strategy for the sport, identifying an action plan.
As part of the Steering Panel, WPA signed an MOU with the Centre for Multicultural Sport (CMSport), which is a new initiative by Centre for Multicultural Youth (CMY) aiming to drive social change through sport.
CMSport provided valuable insights and expertise to the Steering Panel which helped to inform the WPA IDE Strategy. CMSport’s skills helps bridge the gap between sporting communities, like the water polo community, and Australian multicultural communities, providing deep knowledge, breadth of expertise, and lived-experience of multicultural communities and their needs.
Commenting on the MOU, Water Polo Australia General Manager – Strategy and Special Projects, Holly Tyrell, said: “Having CMSport part of our IDE Steering Panel that helped deliver a landmark strategy for water polo in Australia was extremely important to us and we thank them for valuable insights.
“WPA’s Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Strategy is about opening our sport up to people from all different backgrounds and communities, and through the work with CMSport the action plan contained within the strategy will help us create meaningful engagement with multicultural communities across the country,” she said.
CMSport Manager Simon Rodder said: CMSport is thrilled to partner with Water Polo Australia to help build a more inclusive sport. Working with WPA on the development of the Inclusion, Diversity and Equity Strategy has shown they are a sport that is ready to make change and has the support of their community to ensure the sport better reflects current social values”. – Simon Rodder, CMSport Manager
