Melbourne Collegians claim Victoria's first ever gold medal at KAP7 AYWPC

A strong performance from Melbourne Collegians 14&U Boys earned them the gold medal over local team Brisbane Barracudas at the 2020 KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.
Dominant from the first swim up, the Collegians took the lead early, setting up a nice two goal lead at the end of the first period.
The Barracudas attempted a comeback in the second quarter, but the Collegians were just too strong in their attack and defence. Leading into the final period they held a handy four point lead and carried that momentum through score an impressive five goals to secure the gold medal.
Pavle Macic scored two goals for his team in the final quarter, with his strong performance also earning him the Most Valuable Player title.
Collegians captain Cassius Allan said that his team were proud to be taking home Victoria’s first ever gold medal from the KAP7 Australian Youth Water Polo Championships.
“We’re pretty excited and so happy to be taking home the gold medal - we’ve had a really fun time here in Brisbane,” Allan said
Collegians coach Simon Magasanik said the team entered the competition with some high expectations and he’s pleased his team was able to deliver on them.
“I’m very proud of them - it’s been a great competition and I can’t believe they actually won the gold medal,” Magasanik said.
“To come here to a national tournament is really important to both us as coaches and the players, to gauge where we’re at. To come home with a gold medal is even better,” he said
Sydney Uni Lions earlier defeated Queensland product the Sunshine Coast 7-1 to take out the bronze medal.
Sydney Uni’s Daniel Tzioumis was named Most Valuable Player.
