Day 5 FINA World League Super Final: Aussie Stingers

The Aussie Stingers have rounded out their FINA World League Super Final with a solid 10-7 win over Japan to finish in seventh place.

While it was not the Tournament result they had set out for, there were positive and learnings the young side can take as they prepare for the World Cup later this year.

Japan's unique fast-paced playing style delivered another close contest for the Aussie Stingers, with the first half seeing scores locked 2-2 at half time in a low scoring affair.

But the Aussie Stingers regrouped and produced a dominant third and fourth quarter with five unanswered goals putting the Japanese on the back foot.

Aussie Stingers Captain Zoe Arancini was pleased her side were able to finish the tournament with a win, despite the overall standing not where the Aussies had hoped to be.

“Japan is a very difficult team. They are good at counter attack and defence. We have just got to adjust - they were strong in the first three quarters.

"In the last we collected ourselves, calmed down and played what was in front of us.

"We are developing systems going forward to Tokyo 2020 and  continually improving.

"We have improved on last year, so we are going in the right direction, developing our systems," she said.

In wrapping up the FINA World League Super Final Head Coach Sakis Kechagias said: “I think it is all about experience. We wanted to see our good and bad moments and analyse them and correct them to see how we can better and better in every process leading up to Tokyo 2020."

The Aussie Stingers have a European tour coming up as their squad continues to prepare for the FINA World Cup from 4-9 September 2018 in Surgut, Russia.
