Water Polo Australia Referees Coordinator Phil Bower is pleased to confirm the eight Australian referees who have been appointed to the FINA Referee Panel for 2022.
Six members of the 2021 FINA Panel have retained their position, while Gabor Boros has been reinstated to the group and Ashleigh Kaesler has been elevated for the first time.
The Australian referees include Tokyo Olympic referee Nicola Johnson, and London 2012 and Rio 2016 Olympic referee Daniel Flahive.
WPA Referee Coordinator Phil Bower offered his congratulations to those appointed.
“It is great to have a mixture of experienced and up and coming referees appointed to the FINA Panel this year,” Bower said.
“With World League, Senior World Championships, as well as the Youth and Cadet World Championships in 2022, there are plenty of opportunities for our Australian referees to officiate on the world stage.
“In the mean time, it is fantastic that all eight referees are currently active in the Australian Waterpolo League.
“I wish them all the best of luck, and look forward to working with them, throughout the upcoming international season,” he said.
The recommendations were made by the International Selection Panel composed of Bower, Australian Waterpolo League Head Delegate John Fox and WPA Appointed Representative Jane Waldburger, and approved by the WPA Board.
WPA would like to congratulate the following referees on their appointment:
- Daniel Flahive (VIC)
- Nicola Johnson (QLD)
- Andrew Carney (ACT)
- Daniel Bartels (NSW)
- Nicholas Hodgers (NSW)
- Fiona Haigh (WA)
- Gabor Boros (WA)
- Ashleigh Kaesler (QLD)
