FINA World Championships - Beach water polo exhibition
Published Thu 30 May 2019
FINA has invited Australia to field a women’s team in a beach water polo exhibition event that will run concurrently to the FINA World Championships in South Korea.
The demonstration event will feature four men’s and four women’s teams with Australia’s selection in the women’s event based on continental representation.
The Australian team will face China, Spain and USA in three pool rounds with the event to culminate in a 1v2 and 3v4 playoff.
Water Polo Australia (WPA) is now inviting expressions of interest from suitable women players, coaches and managers who may be interested in representing Australia in the four-a-side beach water polo format.
The aim of the selection is to provide opportunities to athletes aspiring for national representative opportunities, develop athletes within the Australian water polo pathways as well as provide a new opportunity to past high performance athletes to retain their involvement in the sport, in a new and exciting format.
WPA will select seven athletes, one coach and a manager to represent Australia at the Gwangju event.
The beach water polo exhibition will run from 13-19 July.
Team selections will be guided by the current WPA selection policy and will focus on retention as well as future development of athletes in our program.
Expressions of interest are due by COB Thursday 13 June and should be submitted via email to bronwyn.smith@waterpoloaustralia.com.au.
