The Aussie Sharks and Aussie Stingers continued their red hot form into the fourth day of competition at the FINA World League Intercontinental Cup in Peru.

FRIDAY 11 MARCH - WOMEN - AUSTRALIA 17 d BRAZIL 2

The Aussie Stingers put their opponents on notice, showing they are the ones to beat, in their fourth game of the FINA World League Intercontinental Cup, and claiming a 15-goal victory over Brazil.

The Stingers started strong, managing to keep their opponents at bay and scoreless in the first quarter.

Carrying that momentum into the second quarter, the Stingers pushed their lead out to nine goals heading into half time.

Tokyo Olympic Abby Andrews was in fine form for the Stingers, scoring four goals that earnt her the Player of the Match title for the second time this tournament.

Also key for the Aussie Stingers was Gabi Palm, who was formidable in goals and crucial to keeping Brazil to two goals.

Palm said the win gives the team some added confidence before their final two games of the tournament.

“It was great to get a 17-2 win against Brazil - it was a really great team game,” Palm said.

“Keeping our opponents to two goals shows our really strong defence, and that just carried through to our attack.

“A lot of goals were scored, extra man plays and counter attacks - we really brought it all.

“We’ve got a bye tomorrow, and then we’ll play Colombia which we’re really looking forward to,” she said.

The Aussie Stingers have a BYE in Round 5, before playing Colombia on Sunday 13 March at 3am AEDT.


 

FRIDAY 11 MARCH - MEN - AUSTRALIA 16 d COLOMBIA 4

The Aussie Sharks came out firing in their against Colombia, keen to continue the momentum from yesterday’s game against Brazil.

Starting with a 5-0 first quarter, the Aussie Sharks went from strength to strength to claim a 16-4 win.

Co-captains Blake Edwards and Nathan Power, and young gun Tom McJannett were formidable in defence, with six steals between the trio, converted into some crucial goals for the Sharks.

Tokyo Olympian Tim Putt was the leading goal scorer for the Sharks, with four goals, and the Player of the Match title.
