Final team selected for Youth World Championships

Water Polo Australia is pleased to announce the final Born 2000 men's team selected to represent the country at the 2018 FINA Youth World Championships beginning on 11 August in Szombathely, Hungary.

The Born 2000 team will undergo a European tour before arriving in Hungary for the international tournament.

As part of their European tour, the 13 athletes will first travel to Greece for a week-long training camp.

Following their Greece training camp, the team will travel to Serbia to compete in a local tournament prior to making their final Youth World Championship preparations in Hungary.

Australian Born 2000 Head Coach Andrew Yanitsas says the years of hard work this team has put in all comes down to this one tour.

“This age group first came together back in 2015 for a major tournament in Serbia.

“The training camps and local tournaments prior to the World Championships provides our team with a valuable test against some of the top water polo nations before the event in Serbia.

“Representing your country is a great honour and each member in this team should be extremely proud of their work to date, but we need to put this aside and work hard to perform to the best of our ability on the highest stage,” said Yanitsas.

The tournament draw will be held this Friday 22 June at the FINA World League Super Final in Budapest.
