Final training camp before FINA Women's Youth World Championship team is selected

The Born 2000 Women's squad will gather from July 8-13 in Sydney for their final Australian training camp ahead of the FINA Youth World Championships next month.

Off the back of their 2017 Europe tour to Holland, Hungary and Greece, the squad have already completed camps at the Australian Institute of Sport this year as they continue to build towards the major tournament in Serbia, beginning August 27.

Australian Born 2000 Women’s head coach Dusan Damjanovic recognises the squad’s development and enjoys working with the group each time they are together.

“The girls showed a lot of dedication at our last camp in Canberra after playing in the national competition - in a way it was good for them to train under difficult circumstances because during our European tour they will be constantly tired and under pressure.

“The quality of games at nationals was really good, lots of girls stepped up and it was difficult for me to only offer 18 girls a spot. Having so much quality is a positive because it means there is a wide base to grow in the future,” he said.

The training camp in July will be pivotal ahead of final selections for the final Youth World Championships squad selection as this will be the last chance players have to show Damjanovic what they can do.

“At the Sydney camp we will be doing a couple of swimming tests, skills sessions and playing three official games which will show us who is ready to play in the international competitions overseas,” he said.
